Beware of the flu shots you get!!

According to Natural News and many health related sources - the flu vaccines administered this last year have come with many complications because they were pushed to market - namely miscarriages and increased cases of influenza. Pregnant women, elderly and people with compromised immune systems are really the only people that "need" the yearly vaccines. Perfectly healthy people have a 50/50 chance of getting the flu with or without the shots (according to my research.)

I advise anyone thinking of getting a seasonal flu shot in particular to do some basic research. Get the published facts on the H1N1 vaccine from the CDC, but keep in mind that they work for the FDA and tend to not publish ALL the facts, only the good ones.

The real truth is not always available and you need to be your own health advocate in our busy world. Anything that is heavily marketed and related to your health should be approached with caution, since some corporation is likely to make a big profit from the sale of the product.

As with anything, natural health advocates typically favor NO intervention, but I personally think that there is a place for modern medicine in our world, but it is NOT the be-all and end- all...

~~~~~~~
I firmly believe parents that do vaccinate need to be educated as to what is being shot into their children. I personally vaccinate my children for the big diseases and shots required for public school, but I keep on top of the available literature and watch their records closely. Since not all doctors and nurses are personally attached to your child, mistakes will be made and duplicate shots can really cause some harm.
Five Simple Ways: Avoid GMOs
Five Simple Ways: Avoid GMOs
Great article from one of my favorites resources.
Crazy but true - we have been eating these things for a while now - unknowingly. Disturbing how widely accepted GMO grains and veggies are by the food industry - no questions asked!!
Well, I am asking questions. Why are we seeing a huge increase in behavioral disorders in children, metabolic syndromes in adults and severe allergic reactions to many foods on the market???
Keep an eye out and protect yourselves from the future of food - non-real food, genetically altered staples and mysterious ingredients.
India halts HPV vaccine trial after six girls die, US does nothing in response to 67 deaths and counting
The US is not taking care of its own people!!!
Why would we as a nation let the drug companies take over our healthcare when this is what they do to our children??
In the name of "preventative medicine" the HPV vaccine, that is being forced on our girls in some states (ie. Texas), is meant to prevent a virus that may cause precancerous lesions if left undetected. The intention is all well and good, but the outcome is HORRIBLE. Paralysis, mental disfunction and destruction of their quality of life is the price this vaccines victims are paying.
The FDA let this one get through without proper trials and studies. It is just another rush through the system in the name of medicine.
The side effects of this drug are numerous and dangerous. I highly recommend teaching your children about safe sex and why - that is the best preventative medicine. Keep an open discussion about sex in your home, avoiding the possibility of getting the HPV virus in the first place. This should be a priority for parents in our country. A shot should never replace good sound parenting, and in this case, that is exactly what is happening.
Color Therapy
Color therapy is a form of energy healing that combines the observation of particular colors with psychological effects they have on your well-being. Color does effect how we see the world around us, how we cope with daily stress, and our over-all mood.
Color can be introduced into your daily life in many ways - fresh cut flowers, artwork, accent paint, jewelry, clothing or lighting.
Many of us have walked into a room that was painted in a noticeable hue like pink or green or blue and have felt some sort of calm or energy or chill. Not really making the connection with the color is normal, but scientists and decorators alike have made this observation and use it around us everyday .
Hospitals dress the doctors in green, it is healing and positively stimulating, instilling confidence in the care provider. Waiting rooms usually have a tone of pink in the paint or decor, to calm restlessness and ease tension. Basically, color is energy, or rather a reflection of light into a particular spectrum, and light is energy. We absorb it and react to it in many ways.
This chart provided by my alma mater, American College of Health Sciences, is a good introduction to the concept of color and its effects on mood.
Natural Pain Relief
I am a big supporter of natural pain relief. I have had my own chronic pain to deal with for many years now, actually my whole adult life.
I had a really bad hit and run accident when I was 18 - me on bike, the other guy in a BIG red truck. Needless to say the 5 herniated discs and blown out shoulder are just a few of my daily aches and pains after 20 years.
Since the accident, there were other car related incidents that re-injured and added to my list of pain to deal with.
In the years of trying to have babies, we found that I have internal scarring related to endometriosis that is quite painful and was making it very hard to have children. WE were successful and have 3 miracles now, but it was not an easy path, nor pain-free.
I have had many opportunities to take over-the-counter drugs on a regular basis, and a plethora of prescriptions given to me by sympathetic doctors. But, I don't like pills and I didn't take them, I would just deal with the pain instead. So I found myself naturally looking for alternatives over the years.
Here is a great article that touches on how to deal with pain naturally and suggests some supplements to take.
I will most likely write an article on the subject myself in the near future, so I will make a point to post it here then.
FDA to Re-examine Anti-Bacterial Chemical in Soaps, Cleansers:
Triclosan linked to hormonal changes, antibiotic resistance in recent studies
By Amanda Gardner
HealthDay Reporter
Reprinted from the Daily Health News
(HealthDay News) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Thursday acknowledged that there could be safety concerns regarding triclosan, an ingredient found widely in consumer products, such as antibacterial soaps, toothpaste and cosmetics, clothing and toys.
In an update to its Web site, the agency stated that "triclosan is not currently known to be hazardous to humans. But several scientific studies have come out since the last time FDA reviewed this ingredient that merit further review."
The FDA did not recommend that consumers change their behavior with respect to these products.
At issue is whether or not triclosan alters hormone regulation in humans, as it has been shown to do in animals. Such disruptions can cause developmental or other problems.
There is also concern that triclosan may contribute to resistance to antibiotics, whereby bacteria develop ways around the potentially lifesaving drugs.
One public health advocacy group applauded the FDA announcement.
"It's about time FDA has finally stated its concerns about antibacterial chemicals like triclosan," Dr. Sarah Janssen, a medical doctor and staff scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council, said in a news release issued Thursday. "The public deserves to know that these so-called antibacterial products are no more effective in preventing infections than regular soap and water and may, in fact, be dangerous to their health in the long run."
However, a representative of the cleaning-products industry defended triclosan's safety profile.
"With all due respect to the statement made by FDA, the agency has in its hands a wealth of scientific data showing a distinct germ-killing benefit of antibacterial soaps containing triclosan," said Brian Sansoni, spokesman for the Soap and Detergent Association (SDA). "We believe these products play a very important role in everyday hygiene routines for millions of Americans."
The FDA update may have come in response to a report in the Washington Post that said the agency had sent a letter to Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment. That letter acknowledged that research had recently raised "valid concerns" about the safety of triclosan, the Post reported.
That letter was a response to a letter Markey had sent to the FDA in January, asking for an update of the FDA's scientific review of the chemical.
According to the Post, Markey has called for a ban on triclosan in products geared toward children and any products that could contaminate food, such as cutting boards. Some countries have already banned or put restrictions on triclosan, the newspaper stated.
"We're certainly going to continue providing an informed perspective to FDA, to EPA [the Environmental Protection Agency] and Congressman Markey and others who might be challenging its safety and effectiveness," the SDA's Sansoni said.
While reiterating that triclosan is not known to pose any danger to humans, the FDA did state that it is "reviewing all of the available evidence on this ingredient's safety in consumer products. FDA will communicate the findings of its review to the public in spring 2011."
The agency also pointed out that it has no evidence that triclosan is any better than soap and water for cleaning purposes.
A University of Michigan review of data, published in 2007 in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases, found that antibacterial soaps that contain triclosan as the main active ingredient are no better at preventing infections than plain soaps.
Dr. Kenneth Bromberg, chairman of pediatrics at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York City, said triclosan poses "no immediate health threat as it relates to individuals. I think the FDA is dealing with a more global issue of risk/benefit for something that may not add any real individual benefit but may, on the aggregate, have negative implications for everybody.
"I wouldn't go throw out all my toothpaste, but more chemicals in the world are not necessarily better," he added. "Every time someone raises an issue of risk/benefit, it doesn't mean we should go nuts, but sometimes less is more. Maybe we don't need all this stuff and, if there's no clear benefit, maybe we should reconsider."
Food Safety and Small Ag Need Our Help!!
SENATE FOOD SAFETY BILL S. 510
Start the New Year off right, by talking with your Senators about safe and healthy food!
Big Ag and Big Food have distributed melamine-contaminated milk from China and salmonella-contaminated peppers from Mexico. Yet Congress hasn't gotten the message that they need to solve the real problems - the centralized food distribution system and imported foods - and not regulate our local food sources out of business.
In November, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) approved S. 510, the "FDA Modernization Act of 2009." Although the Committee members made several comments about addressing the concerns of small and sustainable farmers, S. 510 still imposes many burdensome and inappropriate requirements on local foods, without solving many of the real problems in the mainstream, centralized food system.
The full Senate is expected to vote on it early this year, possibly even this month. Please take action now!
As Sen. Al Franken states “We need to make sure that as we take important steps to ensure food safety that we don’t subject our organic and sustainable producers to two conflicting or duplicative sets of regulations issued by the two agencies. We need to require the FDA and USDA to work together when developing food safety regulations, and to streamline the guidelines for organic producers and sustainable agriculture.”
Call your senator or email a concern to your senator directly. We need to work together to save the local and organic farmers from BIG government oversight and overregulation.
Here is a list of contacts for your state http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm
Ask to speak with the staffer who handles food safety issues. Engage that staffer in a discussion about the importance of local, nutrient-dense foods to you and your family, and why your local food sources should not be subject to FDA regulation. If you get their voice mail instead of the staff, leave the following message:
"Hi, my name is _____ and I live in ______. I'm very concerned that S.510, the FDA Modernization Act, imposes unfair and burdensome regulations on local food sources, which are very important to me. The Committee version of the bill does not address my concerns, and I'd like to talk with you about where the Senator stands on this issue. Please call me back at ____________."
Calling educates the Senators on the issues, and lets them know how their constituents want them to vote at the critical moment of voting.
TALKING POINTS
1. The major foodborne illness outbreaks and recalls have all been caused by the large, industrial food system. Small, local food producers have not contributed to the highly publicized outbreaks. Yet S. 510 subjects the small, local food system to the same, broad federal regulatory oversight that would apply to the industrial food system.
2. FDA regulation of local food processors is unnecessary and overly burdensome. FDA has not used its existing authority well. Instead of focusing its resources on the problems posed by imported foods and large processing facilities, it has chosen to target small processors. While approving unlabeled GMOs to enter our food supply, it has outlawed raw milk and interfered with the free choice of informed adults who want access to this healthy food. Simply giving FDA increased authority and power will not improve the food supply because the agency needs to have clear limits set by Congress to prevent it from targeting small producers and raw dairy.
3. Relying on HACCP will harm small processors. Increased regulations and record-keeping obligations could destroy small businesses that bring food to local communities. In particular, the reliance on HACCP (the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point system) will harm small food producers. Although the theory of preventative controls is a good one for large, complex facilities, the federal agencies' implementation of HACCP, with its requirements to develop and maintain extensive records, has already proven to be an overwhelming burden for a significant number of small, regional meat processors across the country. In the meat industry, HACCP has substituted paperwork review for independent inspections of large meatpacking plants, while sanctioning small processors for paperwork violations that posed no health threat. Applying a HACCP system to small, local foods processors could drive them out of business, reducing consumers' options to buy fresh, local foods.
4. FDA does not belong on the farm. S. 510 calls for FDA regulation of how farms grow and harvest produce. Given the agency's track record, it is likely that the regulations will discriminate against small, organic, and diversified farms. The House version of the bill directs FDA to consider the impact of its rulemaking on small-scale and diversified farms, but there are no enforceable limits or protections for small diversified and organic farms from inappropriate and burdensome federal rules.
5. The bill's requirements apply to all food, not just food in interstate commerce. On its face, the bill applies to any farm or food producer, regardless of location, size, or scope of distribution.
6. S. 510 favors foreign farms and producers over domestic. The bill creates incentives for retailers to import more food from other countries, because it burdens family farms and small business and because it will be practically impossible to hold foreign food facilities to the same standards and inspections. The bill will create a considerable competitive disadvantage for ALL U.S. agriculture and food production (see analysis at http://ftcldf.org/news/news-20Oct2009-2.html).
Please help keep our food whole, healthy and as pure as possible.
Thanks to Summer Waters, L.Ac., N.T.P. for all the great information on this important topic.
